Forest Bear: Under the Stars
There are two bears, one that is silhouetted in basic form, as you might see a bear sitting on a hillside. But inside the bear breathes another, as the stylized bear face gives inner life. A bear in nature is still a bear, an animal that is more powerful than humans and rightly should be left alone. But the stories we project upon the bear live within, from the cuddly teddy, to brother bear, or the family of bears that Goldilocks stumbles upon. We can love the animal we create in stories, but we must also love the animal in its natural state.

Product Info
This piece is a "mixed media relief engraving.” The main image is in the block print or relief family of printmaking, which refers to two surfaces, one lower than the other, so that the highest surface prints. I hand carve each image with small but tough tools called burins, or gravers. The remaining surface is rolled with ink and pressed through the printing press. 
I combine mixed media (collage, colored pencil, watercolor, goldleaf, etc) into each piece. This is a mixed media edition of 10, the print you recieve may vary slightly from the one pictured.
